API 653 Tank Inspection
The API 653 standard (Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction) governs the inspection programme for welded steel atmospheric storage tanks. It defines periodic external inspections, formal internal inspections and thickness measurements of the shell, bottom and roof in order to calculate corrosion rates and the following inspection intervals.
In this section we bring together the articles devoted to tank inspections according to API 653, focusing on ultrasonic thickness measurement and on corrosion mapping techniques.
Dakota instruments for API 653 tanks
Dakota CMX Series — corrosion gauges with A-Scan for shell inspections.
Dakota MX1-DL / MX2-DL — A-Scan, B-Scan and data logger for complete bottom and roof mapping.
Dakota CX8-DL — pulse-echo, Echo-Echo and B-Scan with storage of measurement points.
