RODER SRL has an in-house technical laboratory for the diagnosis and repair of Dakota NDT instruments. Every job starts with a diagnosis with quotation and ends with a final test and certified recalibration.
- ✓ Technical diagnosis with fault report and quotation before proceeding
- ✓ Repair in Italy for batteries, connectors, keypads, probes and cables
- ✓ Shipment to the UK manufacturer for main boards, displays and firmware
- ✓ Final test and recalibration with certificate before return
- ✓ Managed through RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization)
- ✓ Service also available for instruments purchased elsewhere
When an instrument stops, the question that matters is not how much it costs to repair: it is when it comes back. A scheduled inspection campaign, a plant shutdown with the crews already on site, an acceptance test with a contractual date do not wait for the laboratory. This is why our process always starts with diagnosis, not with repair.
Two pieces of information you need immediately follow from the diagnosis: how much it costs and where it will be repaired. Many faults — batteries, connectors, keypads, probes, cables — are resolved in our laboratory in Italy, with lead times in the order of a few weeks. Work on specialist electronics, such as main boards, touchscreen displays and firmware, requires shipment to the manufacturer in the UK and longer lead times.

Need help choosing the right product?
In both cases the instrument does not come back without verification: before return it undergoes a final test and a recalibration with traceable certificate. A device that has been repaired but not recalibrated is not a reliable measuring instrument, and we do not deliver it.
The process, step by step
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Report | You describe the fault to us; we issue an RMA for shipment |
| 2. Receipt | The instrument arrives at the laboratory with the RMA number |
| 3. Diagnosis | Report of the problem found and quotation for the work |
| 4. Repair | In Italy or at the manufacturer, depending on the type of fault |
| 5. Test and calibration | Functional check and recalibration with certificate |
| 6. Return | Return of the instrument with the documentation |

Before shipping: many problems are solved over the phone
In most cases 70-80% of service requests are resolved remotely at the first contact, without shipments or on-site visits. Unstable readings, coupling difficulties, misplaced configuration parameters and error messages often have a cause that can be identified by talking it through.
Before starting an RMA it is therefore worth writing or phoning us, describing the behaviour of the instrument, the material being measured and the probe in use.
Original spare parts
We keep original Dakota NDT spare parts and accessories available for the most frequent requests: replacement probes for all series, probe cables in various configurations, couplants, calibration blocks, battery packs, carrying cases and USB cables. See Probes and Accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Lead times depend on the type of work. Repairs handled in the laboratory in Italy typically have lead times of a few weeks, from receipt to calibrated return. Shipments to the Dakota manufacturer in the UK require longer times for international logistics and the availability of specialist spare parts. At the diagnosis stage we tell you the expected lead times before proceeding.
Yes. The technical diagnosis produces a detailed report of the problem found and a quotation for the work. The repair starts only after your approval.
Yes. Before return, every repaired instrument passes a final test and a recalibration with traceable certificate. A device that has been repaired but not recalibrated would not be a reliable measuring instrument.
It is the Return Merchandise Authorization, the return authorisation number we issue after the fault has been reported. It serves to track the instrument from shipment to return: without an RMA, processing cannot be started.
To report a fault and obtain an RMA, contact us stating model, serial number and a description of the problem.
