Measurement data management

Ultrasonic instrument with transmission of measurement data

A reading without its point is an orphan number. The value of an inspection arises when every measurement remains tied to the position where it was taken and to the campaign it belongs to.

  • ✓ On-board data logger: no manual transcription in the field
  • ✓ Mapping grids that follow the inspection plan
  • ✓ Download to computer via USB or Bluetooth®
  • ✓ Comparison between campaigns and report for the client

On a campaign of a few readings the notebook works. On a mapping of a few hundred points it does not: manual transcription introduces errors that no one will ever be able to find, and above all it risks breaking the link between the value and the position, which is the most valuable information of the entire inspection.

The integrated data logger solves the problem at source: the reading is stored on the instrument at the moment it is taken, already associated with the position provided for in the plan. The operator moves on through the grid and writes nothing down, so cannot get the correspondence wrong.

The next step is the transfer to a computer, where the readings enter an archive that outlives the campaign. This is where the data becomes useful a second time: compared with previous campaigns it returns the trend over time, that is, the quantity on which maintenance decisions are taken.

A single software for all the instrumentation

Acquisition of thickness readings during an inspection

Dakota NDT distributes its software free of charge. DakMaster™ imports the readings, organises them by project, analyses them with statistics and charts and produces the inspection report; it is the common interface for both thickness gauges and flaw detectors.

For data transfer only and the management of setup files there is DakView 4, available for Windows and macOS. The complete list, with an indication of which software serves which instrument, is on the Software download page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a sequential batch and a grid?

The sequential batch stores the readings one after another, in order of acquisition. The grid instead arranges them in a matrix of rows and columns that reproduces the layout of the points on the component.

Is Dakota NDT software chargeable?

No, they are distributed free of charge by the manufacturer. The Software download page indicates which software corresponds to each instrument.

Can campaigns from different years be compared?

Yes, provided that the points are identified in the same way in all the campaigns. This is why it is advisable to define the structure of the points at the first inspection and keep it over time.
