The inspection report is the point at which the work done in the field becomes a deliverable document. It is not an administrative formality: it is the form in which the client receives, and keeps, the outcome of the inspection. To be useful it must contain not only the measured values, but also the information that makes it possible to reconstruct how they were obtained: the points inspected, the instrument and probe used, the calibration performed, the measurement mode applied.
Producing this document starts from the archive. The readings transferred from the instrument are organised by project and analysed with statistics and charts, and the report arises from that processing. The advantage over manual compilation is not only speed: the document reports the same archived data, without the transcription step in which the hardest discrepancies to explain are generated.

Trend analysis adds the time dimension. By comparing the same point across successive campaigns you obtain the rate at which the thickness is reducing, and from that you estimate how much time separates the current value from the minimum allowable. It is this quantity, and not the single reading, that guides the planning of interventions and the choice of the interval between one inspection and the next.

From the archived data to the trend

DakMaster imports the readings, organises them by project, analyses them with statistics and charts and produces the inspection report. Being the interface common to thickness gauges and flaw detectors, it makes it possible to keep a single archive format even when the campaigns are carried out with different instruments.
The condition for the trend to be readable is the consistency of the campaigns. The points must be identified in the same way, walked in the same order and measured in the same mode: a series in which the mode changes from one year to the next — for example moving from P-E to echo-echo on a coated wall — produces a discontinuity that does not describe a real phenomenon.
