Software \u2014 DakMaster, DakView \u2014 runs on the computer and is used to manage data; firmware runs inside the instrument and governs its operation: how it generates the pulse, how it locks onto the echo, how it calculates the thickness. Updating the former is a routine operation, updating the latter touches the heart of the measurement.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why the recommendation is to update the firmware <strong>when there is a reason<\/strong>: an anomaly acknowledged by the manufacturer, a function you need that your version lacks, a compatibility requirement with a software or an accessory. its <strong>factory settings<\/strong>. Before putting it back into service: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Restore the custom setups<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Redo the adjustment<\/strong> on a reference block, with the probe you will use<\/li><li><strong>Check a known measurement<\/strong> before going back into the field<\/li><li>Check that <strong>compatibility with the PC software<\/strong> is maintained<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firmware update <strong>does not replace periodic calibration<\/strong> and does not renew its validity: they are two distinct things.
